Next steps

The next step to accomplishing project two are choosing one of the options for the project. The one I am probably going to end up choosing is the podcast option. I am going to choose the podcast option because I listen to podcasts every single day so before even starting it I have a pretty good idea on how it is going to look like. I will start the podcast out with a song and lead my way into it. Then I will use my reflections to put together some material for the podcast. I will talk about how college has really changed me. I feel like I am a totally different person compared to who I was when I first got here. I will then talk about some funny experiences that I have had while being here. I will talk about what was difficult I my classes and I will talk about project one from this class because that was a big topic for me in my first semester of college. I will have to find some funny experiences either on my phone or from talking to friends because making this podcast enjoyable should be one of the main focuses of mine. If the podcast is not enjoyable, then it will probably not do very well grade wise. I feel like the more enjoyable it is the better my grade will end up being after it is all said and done. Once I have everything together, I will find a good song to have the outro of the podcast be. I might consider having another person on the podcast with me, but it seems like this project is more centered around me and having details about somebody else’s experience in college does not really make sense for this project.

Dear Drew,

It has been such a long time since I have seen you, buddy. How has life treated you? Since high school ended, it seems like our friend group has slowly drifted apart. I hope the job hunt is going well and I hope I will be able to see you soon.

College has been a wild experience and since moving in, I have created many new relationships with so many different people. I’m sure that you are aware that Tyler is my roommate. Not much is new with him because you still talk to him almost every day. My other roommate is Brady Nicholson from Marshfield Massachusetts. Me and Brady have a good relationship and we always help each other out with whatever we can. I have a new friend named J.T. and he is a funny guy. Another one of my friends is Braeden Veno. Everybody calls him Veno and he is the most stereotypical American you would ever meet. He has a Mullet, a deep voice, and loves to play air guitar to the solo in Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. There is another person whom I have met that had a big impact on my life. Her name is Ashley.

Ashley Araneo is from Windham New Hampshire and she lives in the room right across the hall from me. We met on the first night here. On the first night we had lots of people coming in and out of our room all night. The door was left open and everybody came and went as they pleased. At one point in the night, I was playing my guitar. Ashley was out exploring the dorm when she heard it from down the hall and decided to come into the room to see what was going on.  She walked up to me and said, “Cool guitar!” We talked for hours about different things. Ashley and I had many things in common and we noticed it early in the night. We are both big animal lovers, we both really like classic rock, we are both huge Patriots fans, we both love hockey, and much more. She was probably in my room from midnight until about 3:30 am. Once Ashley said she was going to go to bed I knew I wanted to hang out with her more. I got her phone number and asked her if she wanted to hang out the next day. She said yes and suggested that we go to the yoga class that was being held on the beach the next morning. I was not thrilled about the yoga but I decided to go so I could spend time with and impress her. We went to yoga and the instructor never showed up so instead, we decided to go for a walk on the beach. We had a great time and even we got to play with a dog. After just five days of hanging out together, we started dating. We spend every minute of every day with each other when we are not in class.

Orientation made you forget what you are really here for. An education. Once classes started I realized that college is more than just hanging out with friends and making new relationships. I started off with five classes in the first semester. I have a history class, which is very interesting and I enjoy going. My favorite class is psychology. My professor’s name is Dr. Glenn Stevenson. He is one of the coolest guys I have ever met. Before he was a professor, he was the bass player in a metal band. After his music career, he became the head bartender at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. He has so many cool stories about meeting rock stars and so many other celebrities. Dr. Stevenson makes class interesting, and I really enjoy going to his classes. He makes his class feel like I am attending a TED talk. Everything he teaches us blows my mind. My English class is very useful. In this class, we don’t really learn anything. Our professor gives us a topic to write a paper on every month and that’s what we do for every class. We have written three papers. I wrote a paper on the coddling of the American mind, how social media affects the political views of the average American, and a paper on how Pit Bulls are not a dangerous breed of dog. This class has made a serious impact on my writing abilities and I am so thankful that I have Professor Jacobs because the way she teaches her class makes writing a five-page paper feel like an easy task. I am also in a first-year seminar class. In this class, we read a book called Range by David Epstein. Every Sunday we write weekly reflections, and we also do other projects. I had a statistics class but I ended up having to drop it. A little more than one month into the semester, I fell far behind in most of my classes. It got so bad in statistics that I had to withdraw from the course. Procrastination started to become a serious issue for me. In my Seminar class I skipped a couple journals for Range and stopped doing weekly reflections. In my English class my grade had dropped to a thirty-five percent. I was ready to talk to my advisor to drop that class as well. In history I had a fifty-three percent. I talked with people about dropping out and I almost did. I had a talk with my friend Chase, and he convinced me that I could turn it around. He was correct. I got my English grade into the eighties, my history grade into the seventies, and in my seminar class I got things back on track.

Halloween was a great time up here. In Avilla hall there was a costume party being thrown by the residents and everybody I knew was going to attend. I did not want to spend forty dollars on a costume so I made my own. I decided to dress as Patrick Swayze.

My English class is very useful. Our professor assigns papers, we choose a topic for the paper, and we write four to five pages for each one. We have written three papers. I wrote a paper on the coddling of the American mind, how social media affects the political views of the average American, and a paper on how Pit Bulls are not a dangerous breed of dog. This class has had a serious impact on my writing abilities, and I am so thankful that I have Professor Jacobs because she has taught me so much. I am also in a first-year seminar class. In my English class, my grade had dropped to thirty-five percent. I was ready to talk to my advisor to drop that class as well. In history, I had fifty-three percent. I talked with people about dropping out and I almost did. I realized that dropping out would most likely result in me working either construction or landscaping for the rest of my life. I realized I had to turn everything around. Over time, I got my English grade back into the eighties, my history grade into the seventies, and in my seminar class I got things back on track.

Halloween was a great time up here. In Avilla Hall, there was a costume party being thrown by the residents, and everybody I knew was going to attend. I did not want to spend forty dollars on a costume, so I made my own. I decided to dress as Patrick Swayze. I took a black T-shirt and tucked it into blue jeans, I got a thick silver chain and a wristwatch. Ashley went to the party with me dressed as a surfer. We had a great time. Halfway through our friend Jaret called me and said he was at UNE. He drove all the way from Massachusetts. I went to the soccer field to pick him up. We started walking into the woods. It was dark so I could not see much. As I was walking, I was slowly passing through a pricker bush. Suddenly, I dropped about four feet and landed in water. My back was all scratched up, I was bleeding, and I was freezing from the cold water. When I got back Ashley was very concerned about my new injuries and decided that we should just go back to our dorm.

Everything since then has slowed down. A few weeks ago, my car needed an oil change. I figured this would be a simple task to complete. I went to Walmart to buy oil and an oil filter. I jacked my car up and went to change the oil. I realized that I did not have the correct size socket to take off the drain bolt. I decided to wait until the next day to go to Home Depot to buy the correct size. The next day I bought three sockets, and I was sure I had the right size. As it turned out I still did not have the right size. I went back to Home Depot and looked up what size I needed for the drain bolt on my car. The Ford website said to use a fourteen-millimeter socket. I purchased a fourteen-millimeter and went back again to try and change my oil. This did not fit. I did not want to go all the way back to Home Depot that day, so I waited until the next day. When the next day came, I went back to Home Depot and purchased a fifteen-millimeter socket. This one worked and my three-day-long oil change was complete.

I hope this gives you an idea of what my college experience is like. There have been ups and downs this semester and I have had lots of fun. I hope to see you soon so we can get everybody back together again and reminisce.

From your friend,

Carter J. Kapusta
